LIDAR and 3D Scanner App on iPad Pro 2020

 

I have recently purchased an iPad Pro 2020 and one of the salient features available is access to a LIDAR scanner!

In this post I am going to share a scanning test I did using 3D Scanner App. The video below shows how easy it is to capture a scene using 3D Scanner App.

The 3D Scanner App exports to USDZ and glTF (among other file formats). I exported to USDZ and glTF and then imported the glTF file into Blender followed by uploading the model to Sketchfab using their Blender Plugin. You can see the uploaded model in 3D below.

Additionally, I created a scene in Blender using collection instancing and rendered the scene in EEVEE.

I have edited the video below that shows the model being viewed in 3D/AR using AR Quick Look and the the render from Blender EEVEE.
